Somerville
Somerville is a very small town (population just under 500) in Lincoln County. It is convenient to Augusta, the state's capitol, and within commuting distance of coastal areas and Waterville, home of Colby College. The east branch of the Sheepscott River flows through Somerville and forms Long Pond, which is part of the town's boundary with Windsor. This river and pond are said to be unpolluted and offer good fresh water fishing, including the occasional salmon. The public school system runs K through 8, with high school available on the tuition system. The school is part of Union 133. The residents of Somerville either commute to jobs in other localities, or are employed in forestry trades, or as farmers, full or part time.
The tax rate in Somerville is $13.25 per thousand dollars of valuation for 2006. The town office is open Monday 3-7, Wednesday 11-2, and Friday 3-7. The tax collectors office is open on Saturday 7-12. Trash is brought to the Tri County recycling center in Union just over the town line from Washington. There is a per bag charge.
